Claiming After a Car Accident

Statistics have shown that the number of car accidents seem to be rising yearly. There are many reasons behind this, but what is important here is to know what to do if you are unfortunate enough to be in a car accident.
The first thing you need to do before attempting to start the process of claiming for compensation is to honestly consider who should take blame for the accident.

If the accident was completely the fault of the other party, you are well within your rights to ask for compensation. The level of compensation you will be entitled to ask for will generally be dictated by the damage to your vehicle or any other property you own as a result of the accident, and the level of physical and mental suffering the accident caused you. This can be a variety of different problems, and you will have to have evidence from a doctor to take to court to really verify the truth in your claims of injury and/or psychological trauma and distress.

Before all of this though, you should make the right choices directly after the incident. Make sure you call the police so you can have an extra authority to your claim. Police testimony (written or otherwise) is often a huge factor is court. Also, make sure you collect all the information of the other driver including contact details, documentation and insurance information.

Take pictures of the car and the damage sustained. Also, if you have any obvious signs of injury on your body such as bruises or bleeding, make sure to take pictures of that too. In the aftermath of the event, keep a track of all the money you have spent trying to fix the damage caused by the negligence of the other party. Keep receipts and bank statements proving your financial outlay. If you missed days from work, record those and make a note of the income you missed due to your injuries. Stacking up these integral pieces of evidence will only strengthen your claim and dramatically improve your chances of getting the compensation you desire.

You should really be contacting a personal injury solicitor if you gather sufficient evidence and plan to take the matter to court. A professional working your case will make it much more difficult for the car insurance company to try to settle the matter quickly by offering you a weak and unsubstantial settlement. It will also allow you to be much more prepared, as the solicitor will have a lot of experience in the field. This experience may prove vital during the duration of the trial.
